In trying to open a large text file (90mb) in JEdit I get the warning:

"There was insufficent Java heap memory to complete this request. Try increasing the maximum heap size."

Anyone know the simplest way to increase Java heap memory in Windows?

Thanks

java memory error

Hi Andrew -- not a direct answer, but is Notepad++ or some other editor an option for you?

For jEdit, maybe try the suggestion in this thread:
http://community.jedit.org/?q=node/view/4000
Right click on jEdit and select properties, then add the line
%JAVA_HOME%\bin\javaw.exe -Xms128M -Xmx512M -jar "C:\Program Files\jEdit\jedit.jar" -reuseview
(You would use the path to your jedit file.)

Thanks for the

Thanks for the link.

Interestingly, the same issue doesn't arise if I open the file in jEdit in Ubuntu. In Windows, EditPad Lite seems to have no problems with large text files and appears to share the same functionality as jEdit.
